ammu/Srinagar, January 14, 2025: The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, has issued an important advisory regarding vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and other key routes in the Union Territory.
Traffic Observations
- Traffic flow on NH-44 has been observed to be slow due to several factors, including vehicle breakdowns and single-lane operations at critical points like Dalwas, Mehad, and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather.
Travel Recommendations
- Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and Passenger Vehicles: It is strongly recommended that these vehicles travel during daylight hours to minimize the risk of encountering shooting stones, a common occurrence between Ramban and Banihal.
- Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) and LMVs Carrying Perishable Goods/Livestock: These vehicles must strictly adhere to loading advisories to ensure safe transportation.
- HMVs with six and ten tires: These vehicles are permitted to travel via the Dhar road.
- General Advice: All drivers must ensure their vehicles are in good working condition, carry sufficient fuel, and avoid overloading.
Traffic Plan for January 15, 2025
- Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44):
- LMVs, passenger cars, and HMVs will be allowed to travel in both directions (Jammu to Srinagar and vice-versa) subject to prevailing weather and road conditions.
- Traffic Control Units (TCUs) will continuously monitor the road situation and provide updates.
- Security Forces Movement:
- Vehicles belonging to Security Forces will be permitted to travel in both directions on NH-44, weather permitting.
Status of Other Roads
- Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244: Closed due to snow.
- Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG Road): One-way traffic from Srinagar to Kargil will be allowed between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The use of anti-skid chains is mandatory for all vehicles traveling on this route.
- Mughal Road: Closed due to snow.
- Bhaderwah-Chamba Road: Closed due to snow.
